Results Inconclusive

Results Inconclusive, a story I originally performed as a live lit piece at Story Club Southside, is now published by Story Club Magazine.  It is a bittersweet story about growing up queer and nerdy and the scientific study of father-child relationships.  I hope you’ll check it out.

"From a young age in Queens, New York, Willi Ninja showed a love of dance, and his active imagination found inspiration for his moves in karate movies, fashion magazines, and even Egyptian hieroglyphs. His mother, a staunch supporter of Willi’s talent, regularly took him on visits to the Apollo Theater, where they watched ballet together, and she would whisper encouragingly, 'That could be you.'" A fabulous night talking drag with wonderful people, including my drag dad! Friends! Forgive me, but an academic dream of mine is about to come true. Next Friday, I'll be talking about drag with the one and only Dr. Kareem Khubchandani. His new book Lessons in Drag is wonderful - it's a performance, a tool, a prayer, and a shield. Come talk about it with us! Did you know that I write books for adults too? ICE isn't inevitable- it's only 24 years old. Listen for a book recommendation for taking about the much longer immigrant justice movements with the children in your life. Wondering how to decide what boycotts and strikes to participate in? I got you. Quick thoughts on what's coming after Minnesota from a historian of social movements. Listen to a Teshika Silver and me read our book Sylvia and Marsha Start a Revolution and then get your copy at https://bookshop.org/shop/joymichaelellison #mlkday book recommendations for kids and adults!
